Buninyong Primary School has two fantastic and distinctively different campuses to offer:
Buninyong Campus:
Our school’s main campus is located in the heart of Buninyong, on the outskirts of Ballarat and is close to the University of Ballarat and Technology Park. The school has 580 students and offers an environment that is premised on high-expectations of learners. The children have a vast range of extra-curricular opportunities and are encouraged to always extend themselves.
Scotsburn Campus: Check it out
Our school has a second campus at Scotsburn which is just up the Midland Highway and set in the rural community of Scotsburn. The school has just over 60 students and offers a small school environment with a strong learning environmental focus. The children are organised into 3 classes (P-2, 2-4, 4-6). As such, the children are generally working in multi-age groups building friendships and links across all grade levels. The students at Scotsburn get the best of both worlds as they also get all that comes with being at the Buninyong Primary School.

The school maintains a strong sense of community and communication among parents, children and staff. There is a very high level of parental support and involvement, actively encouraged by our “open door” policy. The school has an excellent reputation within its local community, an extremely professional staff and high performing students. The blend of youth and experience within the staffing profile provides opportunities for continuing to develop a highly skilled staff team and to continue to produce successful student outcomes.
The school offers every student a comprehensive seven year sequential program in all key learning areas, complemented by the whole school approach to the development of social and interpersonal skills and personal learning. The school is currently planning for a transition to a National Curriculum. Whole school delivery of curriculum and seamless transition throughout a student’s learning journey, guide developments in program delivery and monitoring student achievement. A rich curriculum includes Art, Music, Physical Education, and Japanese for all year levels.
Whilst classes at our Scotsburn Campus are multi-age, we run straight year level classes at the Buninyong Campus where possible. This enables us to create a timetable where year level teams come together every week to plan. The sharing that comes from this is a powerful means of lifting the quality of programs and the level of consistency across the school.
The strong history of technology development within the school will continue in preparing students for their future. All classrooms are well equipped and include interactive whiteboards in every classroom, a computer to student ratio of 1:4, a computer lab and a 1:1 netbook program with our grade 6s.
In recent years we have worked hard to personalise learning for every student, aiming to gradually develop independence and responsibility along the way. We have also placed considerable emphasis on making sure students are in touch with their learning. This has required our teachers to be more explicit with their teaching, making sure students know what they are learning and why. This has also required our students to be involved in setting goals, complete self-assessments and engage in discussions about their learning.
The school has outstanding facilities, including a full sized gym, library, art room, computer lab & music room. In 2011 we opened our newest building, which includes six classrooms and 2 very large open spaces. This building takes us to 22 permanent classrooms, which is fantastic. We have beautiful grounds, which are set for further upgrades in the near future.
Buninyong Primary School is a great place for children, parents and staff and will continue to provide positive education outcomes for the students so that they can achieve to their full potential and become productive members of the community.
